Android Boxes?
Looking for some help with these things?

A bloke was telling me yesterday about how I should get one and he could pretty much access anything for about £50 per less.

He mentioned something called Kodi, Quad and fully loaded plus some other technical stuff but I was a bit pissed and can't remember the specifics.

I know topic has been discussed on here before, but would appreciate any guidance or recommendation on what I should be looking for and where from e.g.E-Bay v Amazon as I read earlier that Amazon have stopped selling certain products or something.

Cheers

RJ

Re: Android Boxes?
I've got Sky Sports, BT etc via Virgin but no Sky Atlantic or Movies etc....so would be worth the initial outlay for box sets etc and all the other stuff he reckons he gets.

Re: Android Boxes?
Its worth spending a bit more and getting a decent one to start with. It will save you buying a new one down the line for things like 4k etc

I have this one:

Its also worth buying a bluetooth keyboard remote such as this which will make it much easier to use:

Can these things be operated by a person with very limited techy skills?

Re: Android Boxes?

I've got a Raspberry Pi and an Amazon Fire TV, with Kodi on both. The Fire TV packs more punch, in my view. Tesco sell them for £79. To install Kodi on the Fire TV, you'll need access to a computer and wireless connection, but it's very easy to do and only takes 10 minutes to complete. Just google 'sideload Kodi to Fire TV'. Then, you can download some free football add-ons to Kodi. I use UK Turk - loads of great streams. Or you can pay for guaranteed high quality streams. The sportsmania site is good value.

Re: Android Boxes?

Cheers....looks decent and probably worth the extra £20-30.

I'm assuming Kodi is the app / software that gives you links to movies etc?

I've got Apple TV , so I guess it works in the same way except you don't pay as much for the content?

Re: Android Boxes?
If you have an Apple TV already and an iPhone you could Jailbreak your phone (really simple to do) and then download Kodi and Moviebox to your phone and airplay it to the AppleTV.

Whomail me if you want a step by step guide on how to jailbreak etc.

Re: Android Boxes?
Im running two t8 android boxes with kodi.
Bang on for movies. As for regular sky channels i wouldnt ditch sky or virgin until you have got the gist of kodi and its repos.
Great bits of kit but need updating regular...

Re: Android Boxes?
There's no longer any support or updates for Kodi on Apple TV.

FatboyChelseaScum 11:01 Mon Aug 24
Re: Android Boxes?
The last AppleTV to support downloads was the AppleTV 2. However, theres still plenty of support and updates for kodi on jailbroken iPhones, iPads and iPods

Cheers mate...I'm using the Apple TV via the I-Pad, but jail-breaking isn't an option as it's a work's one.

I think I'm going to go for this (X8-H-Plus):

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Minix-Neo-X8-H-Plus-Amlogic-XBMC-Smart-Core-Quad-TV-BOX-Free-A2-Lite-Mouse-UK-/151741677476?hash=item2354823fa4

A little bit more expensive, but should do me long term, has Kodi etc pre-installed and the remote looks better (keyboard facility) unless I'm wrong.

The X7/X8 are slightly cheaper, but I think the extra £20 might be worth it.

I'm not missing anything obvious here am I and this will be fine?

Cheers

Yes its a good one made and pretty future proof.

I would recommend getting the bluetooth keyboard as well. It will make doing things on it much easier than a clumsy remote. I got a the really cheap £8 one, I'm on my second android box after i upgraded from a cheap one but the keyboard has lasted me since the beginning.

Re: Android Boxes?
start reading up on Kodi as it is quite confusing to start with but once you get the hang of it, its a doddle.

Cheers....will do and appreciate your help.

I downloaded the MovidHDApp you forwarded to my Android phone, it works a treat hence I'm now buying a box.

Re: Android Boxes?
Yeah, if you download showbox as well then you pretty much guarantee either will be working at any one time, they both do go down every now and then so with both you will be fine.
